Straitline Gear at Crankworxs 2012

This years event was big time, the show must go on type of big and that came with a lot of carnage on the riders as the winds picked up.

So it was anyone's game and our riders threw down in front of a crowd of 50,000.

Starting with Casey Groves who is full factory Straitline, he had a hell of a day finding out a family member just passed away but threw it down a ride dedicated to his cousin.

Casey has nothing but heart!

2nd place winner Martin Soderstrom riding our Race ring on his new Hydro ready Specialized Slopestyle bike:

Soderstrom should legally change his name to Whip-O-Matic .

3rd place winner McCaul stole the show with our Hydro and had some squirrely landings that sent him into the Teva booth or RedBull icon  making the crowd roar:

5th place winner Anthony Meserre boosting as usual on our Defacto pedals, the wind didn’t play favourites, this event was gnarly.

Jack Fogelquist, riding our Defacto pedals took some big falls due to winds. He was killing it but washed out on the dry surface ending his runs, he was bummed for sure after winning an invite

This opening shot in qualification shows his crash at 1:15, he still qualified and shook it off for the next days showdown.

Miss America!

Me and the rest of the Locs on Spokez crew started a trail in the winter, took a break as things picked up in the spring, and banged out the rest of it in May.  We named it “Miss America” and couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!  Justin and Devin started their new media group called “Root One Media”, and we all worked hard to shoot what we had dug so much on.  I’m really psyched on how it came out, enjoy!

Straitline @ Jump Ship 2011

There was a full crew of Straitline riders at the first Jump Ship. Mike Montgomery flew up from San Diego to help test the first Straitline Hydro Gyro, film for a TV show, win best trick and come second in a close battle with Brandon Semenuk. Jack Fogelquist made the drive up from Scotts Valley, Eric Lawrenuk and Casey Groves hopped the ferry over from the main land and even Alan Hepburn took a break from his busy rollerblading vert career to ride some bikes.

A trick Alan picked up over the winter (his summer).

Camp of Champions
was on hand with their Air Bag and there was a 20 minute wait for riders of all ages and skill levels to session the bag. It was great to see the progression of the riders over the weekend and it was great to see how many youngsters wanted signatures from the riders who were lining up to ride with them.

Mike flips his bike on dirt (above) and he flips Aaron's road bike onto the bag (below).

The complete Straitline staff was on hand for the event and looked to be enjoying the show. Straitline's all around genius Dennis Paulson even managed to injure himself while learning to back flip into the air bag. Eric Lawrenuk also went down in qualifying and separated his shoulder again. I wish them both a speedy recover so we can get some Straitline A-Line Trains going this summer.

Dennis working on his back flip, put himself out of commission for a couple weeks.

Enough talk, enjoy the pictures and for more Jump Ship news see below ...

Mike wins best trick with a 720 ...

A lot of people came out to see the final.

Separated shoulder, hope Eric is back on his bike soon.

Mike and Casey on the podium.

Casey signing autographs while waiting to hit the air bag.

Mike training for a bike to bike transfer ...

While leaving the venue there was a lot of talk about next year, let's hope this becomes an annual event.

Keep Riding,

Rob Dunnet

P.S. when someone asks you "Do you want to put this gorilla suit on and hit the air bag?" the answer should always be yes!

Fogelsode S2 #9: Brett's Cali Trip Part 1

Brett Rheeder showed up to Cali a few days ago, so we started his trip with a few solid step-up seshes.  We started talking and both wanted to work on 3ing drops, so we went for a little evening scout mission, stumbling across a sweet spot, and built it the next afternoon.  The run-in was a bit sketchy, with a steep sandstone ledge into some soft sand before the boards, but offered plenty of speed into the long soft landing.  We noticed a car nearby, and unsure, decided it would be a good idea to leave, cutting the session short.  Brett’s still here for a few more days so look for more to come!

Oh and here is how I first really met Tippie outside of his free ride movies.

Its a good story, stay with me.

We were at Sea Otter classic heading to the Race Face Mansion party -better known as the sausage fest party- in our luxury Camp of Champions bus.

I so thoughtfully bought a Hello kitty piñata, 2 flats of Coronas and candy to stuff the piñata with.

Arrived fashionably late with 2 our house warming gifts…

We carefully hung it for the festivities to come…

Then Tippie came out of know where, removed it to what I thought would be a better place for us all to enjoy… but then this happened.

Brett lost control and showed us how he breaks piñatas…SEA OTTER 2010 028SEA OTTER 2010 031SEA OTTER 2010 032SEA OTTER 2010 029SEA OTTER 2010 030

The pinata never stood a chance…

Then out of know where Casey groves ripped its head off and wanted to become a human piñata…

So we gave him a beat down!

That's how I first met Brett, at a sausage party with my Hello Kitty pinata.

But back to camp… it is going to be a awesome year up in the mountains.

Fogelsode S2 #8: Fun Week in Santa Cruz

It’s been an awesome week around here, with the sun shining and friends like Christian in town.  We took advantage of the weather and trail conditions to get in a fun day of riding big bikes.  Another day, Jeff and I had a cool little sesh at the step-up, before heading over to Post Office.  The classic sundown-seshes have become routine this time of year, but what’s new are some of the younger riders like Jared, Simon, and Fin shredding with us.  Just a week ago they were doing run-ups into the line and now they’re flowing through with style and even throwing a few tricks!  Stuff like that always gets me stoked to see!

Fogelsode S2 #6: Good Ol' Winter

The weather’s been amazing lately, with many warm sunny days and a few rainy ones here and there.  We got some solid rain one morning, which threw off the day’s plans, so I decided to go to the step-up instead and do a bit of filming.  I brought my slope bike out there and had a good time trying some tricks that I’d only done on my hardtail.  With the sun coming out the next day, many made their way over to Post Office to do some digging.  It was productive to say the least, and with a few more days of work, there should be a couple new lines running!

Fogelsode S2 #5: James' Santa Cruz Trip

James Visser just made the trip up here from San Diego to ride and chill for a week.  Due to the steady rain, most spots were far from running, but with a little work we got in a nice session on Hone’s jumps early in the week.  The trails were running great despite a few puddles here and there, so we got some runs in out there as well.  However, we spent the most time at the step-up, as the sand soaks up most of the rain and it runs great this time of year.  Towards the end of the week we got a big sesh going out there, with Greg throwing down some big tricks like a bar to tailwhip and even a double flip!  James went for the double flip, and got close, but under rotated on one and landed right on his head.  Thankfully he was perfectly fine after a moment of shock, so everyone decided to call it after that.  It was a rad week of shredding, enjoy!

James did quite a bit of filming with his GoPro as well, so check out his view of the week in his latest video!

Fogelsode S2 #4: Rebirth of the Step-Up

About a month ago we started giving the step-up a major overhaul, beginning with a shopping spree at the local lumber yard.  It’s been quite the process of getting the lip build, painting it, and getting it over there, but it was all worth it to say the least!  It’s been some great times having some wicked seshes with new tricks and good laughs.  Good ‘ol winter!

AT’s Showdown practice today!

Casey Groves, Greg Watts and AT  have been slaving by the looks of it, to make the AT showdown become a FMBA tour event. Casey is 8th in the world this season an I applaud this new point system in place like the DH world. Jack Fogelquist and Mike Montgomery are on hand too to throw down, this must become a FMBA tour with the names in attendance showing up just ride and have fun.

Check the full story over at Pinkbike it has lots of pictures for the illiterate peeps out there.

Krankworks video that rocks!

We were quite proud to see 2 of our 3 riders podium at this years event. Jack Fogelquist had a run of bad luck leaving the doors open for Casey Groves to take second and Mike Montogmery 2nd with Mr Zink making his comeback!

I love this video!

Fogelsode S2 #2: Afternoon Seshes at Post

If there’s one thing that never fails to make me want to ride, it’s school.  Nothing like going through a day of classes, notes, tests, and homework with the urge to ride building as you watch each second tick by on the clock.  Fortunately I’m blessed to have Post Office down the street from my school.  With the crazy hot days we’ve been having this week, everyone’s been waiting until the sun begins to set before heading out to the jumps.  It’s been a good routine:  roll up in the late afternoon, give the jumps a nice watering, sip some iced tea, and start riding as the light turns golden and as it starts to cool down.  The shadows of lips and landings grow longer and longer until the sun has fully made its way past the horizon.  This is the best time to ride as it’s the coolest out and there’s a nice even lighting for a short while before it gets too dark to see.  It’s been good times getting seshes like these in here and there, keeping us all sane after school.

Enjoy!
