Taipei show without the lame stuff!

We attended the Taipei trade show over in Taiwan last week. It is basically a place you go to outsource and meet suppliers but we make it all in-house so we just went to check it out and meet some key distributors.

The show was full of lame spin offs and the cool stuff was nothing new so enjoy my compilation of sight seeing I did.

Dennis is the owner of Straitline and he is pretty fly for a white guy in our escalator session in the 101 tower.

The 101 is their pride and joy and the tallest building in the world open for public.

Get this… this is a cardboard couch? It blew my mind and I took a hundred photos of it shrunken and extended, by far the coolest thing I saw.

round bar delivery 243

round bar delivery 242

When you order food they give you a beeper that also vibrates and informs you of specials. Second coolest thing I saw.

round bar delivery 128

Why did they reject my license plate but he got his?

round bar delivery 237

I was rubbing my forehead but I guess their flu scanners are smarter than my pranks.

round bar delivery 307

The view from on top of the 101 tower of Taipei City.

round bar delivery 281

The tower is so tall they designed a counter weight that swings when the wind blows and stabilizes the building. This thing weighs more numbers than I can count.

round bar delivery 283

round bar delivery 288

We designated each ring a set value and proceeded to turn the weight into a drinking game, top ring won a beer. We chanted USA USA USA as we did it before leaving. Sorry America, it’s what we always do when we travel.

round bar delivery 287

We went into the family portrait studio and too ka family photo super imposed over the tower photo. I do not want to post the actual shot, but Jay from Banshee myself and Dennis are acting out a scene While Jonathan, our Mainland China distributor, played a pervy tourist. The staff oddly were not even phased.

round bar delivery 289

That may look like a guy on his knees in a stall because that’s what it is. Jay From Banshee insisted we tried the automated japanese toilet.

round bar delivery 267

round bar delivery 268

It was like showing a remote tribe a television, it blew us away.

round bar delivery 269

I still have my leg injury so after all the walking i became a princess and went for massages and came out understanding the meaning of pain. They literaly come at you with sticks, I should have brought a knife to defend myself.

round bar delivery 109

round bar delivery 110

Oh and the animals were amazing, I just wanted to hug them all!

round bar delivery 207

I used a Spanish voice in my head when I talked to this guy

round bar delivery 229

Awe… nature calls and this guy is answering

round bar delivery 322

What is that in the distance?

round bar delivery 089

Oh, never mind, it is just a wiener dog talking to a British Spaniel.

  round bar delivery 091

This one is fugly…

round bar delivery 235

This is smart attire for tropical environments like Taipei Why the pants do not match the top is beyond me!

round bar delivery 078

I have to show a bit of bike stuff. This beauty is something else. Who ever just solved the adjustable bar rake issue plaguing our sport, I salute you!

round bar delivery 244

Then we flew home and on the way to the airport I noticed that my driver had so courteously removed the belt buckle so that I wouldn’t need to strap in and be annoyed by constraints. After all we are on the Freeway and on the way to the airport, last chance for photos everyone!

round bar delivery 166

Believe it or not this is actually our terminal sponsored by Hello Kitty! Not even joking about this, there is no way I could even dream this up.

round bar delivery 303

Now we are on a plane. It is amazing how people complain about the flights- like how i did on the way over- but no one ever gets off the plane and goes “Holy F**k I just flew in a metal tube at 45 thousand feet 800km an hour and watched 6 movies!” imagine how amazed the first people were when they flew compared to us now?round bar delivery 007

And we are home, the multi million dollar welcoming display at Vancouver international airport reminds you that there is no place like home and that we have more eagles than the Americans so why do they have it as their national bird? Run-on?

Our Taiwan visit and Banshee

We snuck off to the taipei show in Taiwan last week and I honestly have a new respect for the manufacturing sector over there. It was a wild city and the show is typical for those looking to meet a manufacturer but we went over to meet with distributors and learn more about the growing markets.

 round bar delivery 115

We stayed in Charming City Hotel, a baller of a hotel, marble everything and right down town.

round bar delivery 113

Rob at Banshee bikes organized it all and we stayed with Aaron Larocque and the PinkBike crew and I ended up being the responsible one and never partied but they rolled in at 4 am nightly. Just putting that out there for a high five because trade shows can kill you and this time my credit card isn’t maxxed.round bar delivery 072

After the show we bailed but Aaron and Rob went south Island for some riding and filming and they captured Rob and His brothers little jump park.

Check out the video and send it around, it has a great vibe and it shows that it only takes a few to grow a market and a good bike scene.

I TAKE BACK ALL OF MY 29’R COMMENTS

Rob from Banshee dressed the new Prime 29’r in some Straitline love. I have yet to ride a 29’r but Jay at Banshee swears this thing can ride hard!

Banshee Prime Proto - Raw Large Frame, Anodized Black links and drop outs, Straitline (Gregline) pedals, silent guide, 34 tooth chain ring, stem, Geax AKA on the rear and Sturdy Proto in the front, we are getting close to the final test specs ... more changes to come.

Now the best video ever to grace Pinkbikes pages.

Stop! Collaborate and listen, Straitlines back with…

High Five to anyone who finished the blog titles lyrics, you know how old you are!

So I just flew back from Hong Kong and boy are my arms tired!

Check out Adam Krals video, it made me smile after such a long flight -I was in a plane, never actually flew with my arms. http://www.pinkbike.com/video Adam lives up island and his racing attire caught my eye.

We attended, the Taipei show in Taiwan, typically it is a show to meet manufacturers for outsourcing but we went to meet our Asian distributors.

Sadly the events in Japan made it a bit stressful as we watched the heat up on tv at night but all and all it was a fun show. Pics to come.

Cheerio!

Fogelsode S2 #9: Brett's Cali Trip Part 1

Brett Rheeder showed up to Cali a few days ago, so we started his trip with a few solid step-up seshes.  We started talking and both wanted to work on 3ing drops, so we went for a little evening scout mission, stumbling across a sweet spot, and built it the next afternoon.  The run-in was a bit sketchy, with a steep sandstone ledge into some soft sand before the boards, but offered plenty of speed into the long soft landing.  We noticed a car nearby, and unsure, decided it would be a good idea to leave, cutting the session short.  Brett’s still here for a few more days so look for more to come!

Mike Montgomery's New Bikes

Greg made the mistake of giving me access to his personal blog account. I then hijacked his account and added myself as a contributor to his blog. I do not contribute much, but when I do I make sure it counts. In the fall Mike Montgomery asked for custom painted bikes. I told him it would not be a problem to do his Amps up just for him. I did not tell him that I was also planning on doing his other bikes. Custom paint for Mike, top this Greg ...

Mike Montgomery backflip cliffhanger !

Being the proud owner of a few freestyle motorcross games, Mike doesn’t impress me that much but I can understand how you guys get all excited on his new tricks. But I have been landing this stuff since Moto x on Xbox came out. Until I see a true double pits to chesty, Mike is an okay freestyle rider.

Maybe at camp of champions this summer he will impress me with the DPTC.

http://www.pinkbike.com/video/184934/

This is me behind the lens trying to act impressed to fit in, but I  told Mike many times I have done this so many times in my xbox game it has lost its excitement.

Not saying that doing the trick from the couch versus in person, I do understand that the blisters from the controller are not as bad as the ones from biking but they are dam close!

Sample music made from a bike!

Rob at Banshee Skype’d me this link and it is a great way to start the day.

The best clients are guys who own your stuff and make creative web edits that you have had nothing to do with. Pure enthusiasm and stoke.

NKOTB stands for awesome!

This scene was cut from Ryan wants to Stoke you out! All because you guys missed the epic era of NKOTB and it made no sense unless you were up to  speed.

http://www.vimeo.com/16718203 Pass word "straightline" proper spelling unlike our true brand name.

And feel free to check the final cut out and you be the judge http://www.pinkbike.com/news/ryan-berrecloth-episode-2--the-island-

And yes I personally own two limited edition still in the box Donny and Danny dolls. Laugh at me know but I have sent them on a world tour first to rep our Austrailian national DH team and to announce their new world tour. Next is Britain, where they will over see Straitlines Team MTBCUT in their national series then Germany.

Here is Danny (left) and Donny (right) catching a tan in Melbourne Australia after being unpacked with our race rings by Ty at Groupe Sportif. I think Danny has been using tan in a can…

Oh and here is how I first really met Tippie outside of his free ride movies.

Its a good story, stay with me.

We were at Sea Otter classic heading to the Race Face Mansion party -better known as the sausage fest party- in our luxury Camp of Champions bus.

SEA OTTER 2010 007

I so thoughtfully bought a Hello kitty piñata, 2 flats of Coronas and candy to stuff the piñata with.

SEA OTTER 2010 019

Arrived fashionably late with 2 our house warming gifts…

SEA OTTER 2010 023

We carefully hung it for the festivities to come…

SEA OTTER 2010 026

Then Tippie came out of know where, removed it to what I thought would be a better place for us all to enjoy… but then this happened.

SEA OTTER 2010 027

Brett lost control and showed us how he breaks piñatas…SEA OTTER 2010 028SEA OTTER 2010 031SEA OTTER 2010 032SEA OTTER 2010 029SEA OTTER 2010 030

The pinata never stood a chance…

Then out of know where Casey groves ripped its head off and wanted to become a human piñata…

SEA OTTER 2010 033

SEA OTTER 2010 035

So we gave him a beat down!

SEA OTTER 2010 037

That's how I first met Brett, at a sausage party with my Hello Kitty pinata.

But back to camp… it is going to be a awesome year up in the mountains.
