I truly was stoked when Tippie asked to run our DeFacto pedals, the man is a legend in biking. He earned more respect from me when we were in Monterey California a few years back and he admitted all of his party sins and why he vanished.
But Now he’s back full force like he never even left.
Watch this honest interview hosted by our very own Ryan Berrecloth, cool to see two of your riders making shit happen on their own.
Straitline’s Ryan Berrecloth has installed the 6th installment of “Ryan wants to Stoke You Out!” basically he wants to pass on what it is like to receive a box of gear in the mail from his sponsors. It’s great until you accept a box from me at Straitline!
Click this link for full story and contest details!
This vid is mainly shot at the compound up in Whistler and it opens up with me walking into Ryans frame with my girlfriend staring into the lens scared. I told everyone that day I was going to try a flip into the air bag, but Ryan wouldn’t let me because as you can see me limp by with my bunk leg. Glad I never climbed the ramp with my aircast on, its not all what it cracks up to be when you land, you still take a bit of impact on the legs.
Alan Hepburn and Jack fogel rip it up in this segment along with Mike, check it out.
This is a pretty sick concept that Ryan has put together to make you feel what it’s like to be pro and get your gear kits in the mail. Ryan is covering all of his sponsors and handing over the gear packs to the viewer so be sure to keep an eye on all his videos and click this link for info on how it all works.
Ryan went for a rip with Straitlines Andrew Mitchell and Alan Hepburn. Jarret more is just a media whore and snuck into this segment plus he owned the house so it would be rude to edit him and those jeans out!
And be careful being Stoked is cool once in a while but not all the time, it can affect your life and the ones you love so Stoke responsibly
I met Baxter through Alan Hepburn last year and have had him come in a few times for the odd project, his shot of Alan is on our about page. Just saying this out loud… so that I have to back it up… but I nose manual this rock all the time Alan I would at least expect you to tail whip it or something. I have been on a mission to show up Alan for a year or so but that was before i fell hard and failed hard this Feb..
Anyways, Baxter and Straitlines very own Ryan B have teamed up for a series of webisodes to be released this fall and most have a sense of humor thrown in just like this video made for Lizard skins… Ryan told me about this this video concept over a few beers but and I never really saw it coming out as so cheezmo awesome funny as this, Vespa skills are off the scale!
Baxter just had a interview up on Pinkbike and you have to watch his Beer commercial shot up at UVIC, be sure to pass this around.
I found this shot on the web and I cannot believe the ingenuity and progression displayed before me. All jokes aside this is is an epic display of what can be done when you put your mind to it.!
And lots of progression this Canada Long weekend weekend on the bike as well! I spent Canada day up in Whistler at the Camp of Champions and was in awe at what I saw. Montgomery pulled a 360 body varial he dubbed the California roll and now everyone who wasn’t there is debating if it was the first but rest assure it is the first on a 26.
Here was my angle of it all…
I wish that I caught it on film but Greg was hitting the jumps with his hands backwards on the bars… wrist out. When I asked him why he is riding like that he just said “I’m bored”! He went through most of his tricks like that and landed everyone
This film is by Eric Peterson of Faultline, he is getting all the camp footage and carnage as it happens.
I’ll caption this shot for everyone… “My name is Mike and I just did a California Roll, WTF have you done?”
Camp coach and Straitline factory rider Alan Hepburn
Alan again but this time he’s spicing it up on his Unicycle.
Camp coach and Straitline Factory rider Jack Folgelquist was right behind Alan throwing tricks.
Jack smiles a lot and if you watch him mid air he is perma grin.
Watts, Hepburn, Montgomery, Dyer, Cho Cho and Ryan Berrecloth somewhere out of frame. Mr Groves had to leave for Goatstyle, in fact everyone is heading to Goatstyle next week to earn a spot at Crankworks.
The man behind it all Ken Achenbach. He owns a backcountry cat skiing firm and runs a SKI/BOARD/BIKE camp in the summer aka my new BFF.
Found this thread and Kens response to player haters after viewing the video below. Sums it up pretty good.
“It's pretty classic how every thinks you get "Sent" to COC. Kids actually beg all year to come to camp and when they get here they ride from sun up to sun down because it's their dream to come to camp. It's why we work so hard to make every day absolutely insane. Coming from a single parent family without two cents to rub together I know how hard everyone works for the money that camp costs, whether you are rich or poor. It's my dream to enable people to ride in an amazing place, ride amazing bikes and meet amazing people and make friends with them. Give them the opportunity that I never had. So I can understand the "F that 2 grand" I can also understand the "I want that and I will do whatever I have to do to come to camp." I collected bottles, shoveled snow, and mowed lawns to get the things I wanted. Things taste the best when you work for it and 99% of the kids that come to camp work for it. Be it getting good grades, doing chores or slaving as a dishpig. That's why camp is so fun. Everyone here wants to be here. I'd kill myself if I ran a camp where people get "Sent" We teach riders to Send It! Bored kids go to the mall. Smart kids go biking. Ken”
This was a rad way to start the day, Ryan sent us a link of his road trip to the infamous Okanogan Valley, my home turf!
Open and warm terrain with cactuses, rattlesnakes, badgers and the Ogopogo lurking… the Okanogan is a mans place!
That second mountain to the left is Summerland BC, that’s right it is called Summerland and the neighboring town is actually called Peachland. When I travel I just tell people that I am from Vancouver to avoid the questioning on a town named Summerland. It is retirement-ville, keep driving like Ryan did and hit up Penticton!
High alpine pecker poles… fast flowy trails…
Skaha valley Cliffs… miss this place!
Check out Ryans full article on Pinkbike for more pictures, it really is a rad place to ride everyone just thinks of Whistler and the Shore when planning a trip to BC but every valley is unique, it is well worth it.
Steve Romanuk just VOD today with Knox Mountain helmet cam, again a home town spot in the Valley. I’d ride it until the snow pushed me down the hill, then off to Victoria to ride Street in the Winter.
This Mountain is really simple to ride and just fast and fun as hell at the base of Kelowna City. Getting nostalgic, haven't been there in forever!
Check it out!
Oh and it is famous for the evil Ogopogo… look at the scary waves.
Ryan showed us his video he made with Baxter of Fernwood Media while we were down in Vegas and this is the end result!
Ryan is rocking a set of our red Straitline Pedals in the video, a much needed tool if you have ever dropped into a long gnarly interior line like that! Everything looks mellow on film until you sit on top of the chute, this is when grippy wide platforms are heaven sent as you hold on!
Enough about Ryan, me time. Here is a retro shot of me dropping into a line near my hometown of Summerland B.C.! I shot it on Video and you swear that a kid could do it on a Trike. Nothing beats your own eyes to appreciate a line and that line Ryan attempts on Helmet camera is fricken gnarly fast!
This was my playground for the fall, then I’d migrate to Victoria first snowfall to ride street.
And big, huge thanks to Baxter for hooking me up with my product shots that I desperately needed to meet catalogue deadlines.
Baxter shows up, sets up, shoots leaves and I tell everyone that I did it after hours!
Ryan has been popping up everywhere doing a great job repping BC riding and culture amazing how many riders just free float while a few make a serious go at it.
Check out Ryans ride and his custom Canucks paint job too! Ryan rides our Platform Pedals and puts them to the test daily on his Knolly, check out this link if you are new to our Platforms.
Straitline Components and Ryan Berrecloth to Release Bear Systems TM
"Straitline Components of British Columbia Canada have teamed up North Shore Local Ryan Berrecloth to launch new safety measures for the infamous North Shore and Whistler regions of BC.
Controversy has been stirring over new safety measures for all mountain bikers as mandatory bear laws come into effect as early as this month, banning all lift and trail access to those not compliant. " - The Vancouver Sun, April 1st 09
The question has always been how can we stay safe while riding and building in Bear Country?
The answer came to me when I took a frantic call from Ryan Berrecloth last fall when he was charged by a Bear while building a new line for a upcoming shoot.
“Greg, you're not going to believe this but I was just out building that line I showed you over the creek bed, literally hammering the last board on the lip when the whole thing started to shake.
I looked back and a fricking Bear was in full charge running down my line! I didn’t even have time to move I just let out a yell and held on to the edge the best I could as the bear flew by me and sent it over the creek! I was freaking out, NOBODY poaches my lines!”
So we brought Ryan over to our factory and asked him to recreate what he yelled at the bear to make it run away. Showed him a chainsaw that wouldn't start and recorded his high pitch scream on a High DEF BlueRay Disk and went to work.
We simply Utilized Aerospace Space Aged Aircraft Solid Billet Aluminum (ASAASBA) to devise a cutting edge bear system that mimics your bikes every movement providing constant screaming as you rip down any BC Trails.
Since last fall we have struck deals with all of BC’s biking resorts and with the help of the BC Government secured the rights to sell the Bear Bell Systems, pretty much took the whole market over night and the money is insane!
We Collaborated with Faultline.tv to make a series of public awarness videos!
I personally vow to enforce and educate riders on the use of our Bear Bell System! I will be at every Trail head and every lift line this summer checking everyone's Bikes and rejecting those who do not comply!
BEAR FACTS:
Bears are big and brown except baby bears which are much smaller!
Bears are a very Proud People though they are not people per say but an animal!
Bears derive their name from a football team in Chicago but live in British Columbia Canada!
It is estimated that bears kill over 2 million salmon a year! However, Salmon attacks on bears are much more rare!
Bears also have been known to attack and kill man, but the fact is they have killed less men than World War 1 and World War 2 combined!
With the loss of their habitats bears have developed bad habits!
When interviewed about the bear bells 9 out of 10 bears said mmmwwwahhhwgrrsnort! But if I spoke Bear I would take that as "I think this is the worst April 1st Prank yet!"
If people like BMW insist on punking me for being so godly like, then the least I can do is pay it forward!
This is what we call a humor test.
First you select a high profile rider as the victim!
Then you send a cleverly disguised package via Greyhound, AKA Canada's most welfare and very public parcel delivery station!
The plan is to make the victim DO "the walk of shame" in the most humiliating situation known to man, a Canadian Greyhound station. You could have sent it overnight on FedEx but your friends are Ghetto, and Gayhound is how they roll!
But what if it fails? First off you must Make the box big! A minimum of 15 inches by 15 square with all the sides marked. Make is so big that his disgusting private life is exposed to a crowded room. Sayings like "All Sales Final" are a great addition for believability and as shown.... highly suggested.
No matter what they say or do you know they need whats inside that box, it overrides their common sense. You just made them openly sign for a giant box of man love!
Because I am a perfecionist, I had Greyhound call him with a fake name "Pablo Berrecloth" so that the phone call starts off confusing and awkward right from the start!
Then you sit back and enjoy the moment, because you sir, have just made something special.
Welcome to the team Ryan!
