Straitline riders sweep the Canadian Open!

Straitline's Andrew Mitchell and Dean Tennant sweep the Canadian open along Straitlines Team Lama Yann Guavin in third!!
But why such little coverage from Canadian Media?

1 Andrew Mitchell (Can) 4:08.060
2 Dean Tennant (Can)  4:09.060
3 Yann Gauvin (Can) 4:10.225

Dunbar Cycles sent a release that captured the event quite well with some shots from the guys!

This past weekend was the 1st round of Canada Cup In Trembant. Andrew Mitchell and Dean Tennant headed over starting off there month like trip of racing. The boys both put together awesome runs, Andrew taking 1st and Dean only one second off of him in 2nd place. Dunbar 1 and 2.

Next stop is the US Open Next weekend in New York. From there the boys head over to Scotland for the 2nd round of the World Cups in Ft. William

A good pic of Drew near the bottom of the course  http://www.privateermtb.com/content.php?220-Canada-Cup-Round-1-Mont-Tremblant

Below is a little course walk preview from the boys on Friday

Canada Cup # 1

Course walk with the Dunbar/Devinci/Elka Team

With team mates Andrew Mitchell and Dean Tennant

So as we headed to the course through the village we could see that the snow was still lying around. As we got closer to the infamous rock garden we could see some sort of animal moving about, but we were also missing Dean. Wait a minute... that's Dean so pumped on smashing boulders.

“Dont worry the rocks were washed after wards”image

Everyone has always enjoyed racing Tremblant except that you have to go through a river that everyone hates!  So Stupid.

Not this year!image

This course hands down has to have some of the gnarliest sections on any track we raced imagine trying to race across this rock...

image

Overall the track has had some great improvements and we are looking forward to practice tomorrow!

Except for this jump which you have to turn off the race line to hit but was just freshly built for the race.

Dunbar cycles reviews the Elka Fork Cartridge

"Elka's new Stage 4 fork cartridges just arrived at the shop and we wasted no time installing them into our personal forks to see what the fuss is all about. We have high hopes for these new units after being very impressed by their rear shock's performance. While it's still early days, you can read our initial impression of the Stage 4 inside. Were they up to the task or did the cartridges spontaneously combust, causing a cataclysmic reaction destroying the entire north shore? "

Full review and video in this link:

Psst... this film was shot by Straitlines Andrew Mitchell because he forgot his lid, pretty good for ameature vid. Enjoy the Straitline bling peppered on that build.

Dean Tennant training video

I love how much Island content is coming out! Deaner is a local and is our Andrew Mitchells Team mate on the Dunbar Cycles team and Victoria’s First World Cup team, huge high five! And high five for Dean rocking the SL 50 boxxer, it obviously shaves some time off his runs. It’s not the rider who is fast its the stem he chooses… so we claim!

So check out Dean’s training regime and yes it is off season and when you live in Victoria you can ride all year long.

Ryan Berrencloth is Stokeing you out!

This is a pretty sick concept that Ryan has put together to make you feel what it’s like to be pro and get your gear kits in the mail. Ryan is covering all of his sponsors and handing over the gear packs to the viewer so be sure to keep an eye on all his videos and click this link for info on how it all works.

http://www.pinkbike.com/news/ryan-berrecloth-episode-2--the-island-2010.html

Ryan went for a rip with Straitlines Andrew Mitchell and Alan Hepburn. Jarret more is just a media whore and snuck into this segment plus he owned the house so it would be rude to  edit him and those jeans out!

And be careful being Stoked is cool once in a while but not all the time, it can affect your life and the ones you love so Stoke responsibly

Or you will become this guy…

Crankworxs! WTF?

Wow, we had three riders in the finals Jack Fogelquist Casey Groves and our new comer Mike Montgomery, all of them stepped it up on a course that was not the best to date.

Mike tail whipping the judge box..

Casey right behind him with his whip, this box was very scary just to look at.

Jack took a spill in semi finals but threw down like a mad man having qualified days before in 2nd place with Montgomery 1st.  Come showdown, it was the best event yet, the course was not a good one but the riders sucked it up and sent it for sure.  Casey Groves took 3rd with Mike Montgomery Second and a well deserved 1st again for Cam Zink! Stoked to have 2 riders on the podium representing our gear.

It was a tough course and Casey and Mike ended up on that podium and Casey is on cloud nine, huge congrats Casey! Just watch the video and see for yourself how huge it was this year.

FreerideBC Bike Park is so sick!

FreerideBC.com is a little project we at Straitlinestarted 4 years ago. I am the President of the society and admittedly the worst President on earth but at least I admit it.

Kyle Michell  and Andrew Mitchell have reshaped the intermediate lines in preparation to soil tac treatment over the past week or so and they are chiseled once again.

Here is Kyle and Drew trying to look tough for a photo posted on the fence asking kids to stay out until we are done.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz1 001

It wouldn’t keep me out, they look like a bunch of push over's, but the missing tooth is pretty core Drew.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz1 002

As a back up plan, we have enlisted our local grommit Jon Stanners to help smack heads when and if people start disrespecting our work in progress.

bike park 2010 008

Anyways, this is not showing the bowls and hips they placed in and out of the lines. I’m limited to how far I can walk in with my bunk leg so use your imagination but we started scratch again since the previous jumps were looking rough.bike park 2010 003

The Large rock right of the digger is the kicker to enter the pro lines, I’ll try and get a better angle in the coming days but they are building some crazy lines, stoked to show it off.bike park 2010 002

Local pro BMX rider Matt Bear is helping plan the flow of the lines and test ride it as Kyle and drew shape the course.

bike park 2010 006

This view is just over a third of the park from the entrance gate, we have a lot to do and an entire treed section to build in so keep your eyes peeled.

Freeride Park is open next week!!!

BEFORE...

<
AND AFTER!!!

We are 80 percent complete in all phases!!

Andrew Mitchell and Kyle Michell have been slaving away in this park for the past two weeks making the final push on the park! Mark Mathews was their master raker until he broke his hand!!

www.freeridebc.com www.freeridebc.blogspot.com
Go and enjoy this park on June 16th, it encompasses every skill and fitness level and has been 100 percent built on peoples passion to introduce to you what biking really is and how it can benefit your life. Sounds cheesy but it is true, get in there and enjoy it and a huge thanks to all the volunteers and all of the donations to the Friends of North Saanich Freeride Society!

So June 16th we expect to be 100 percent open in all the new phases only leaving the Pro line and the much anticipated dual slalom course to be built which requires material and funding for completion!

Remember riding this park before the opening date JUNE 16TH is illegal and will result in further delays in the parks opening. Please respect this and wait until it is ready, we have worked very hard to acheive this and it would be a shame to have it closed due to a few people who decide to jump the fence.

Other than that get ready for a fun summer!

Expert Phase Complete!!

This park is going to be sick and as promised 100 percent free for all to enjoy! Half done with only the dual slalom course and pro lines to be designed and connected to the pump tracks hidden in the trees!

Another Teaser on the Park!

This is just the expert/ intermediate and learning area the sloped bank is soon to be a dual slalom course that will be the most used feature in the park by far!
Shout outs to follow, just enjoy the sneak peeks.

I'm back, Game on! Boxxer stems 50mm are here!

I was back last Friday but have been too busy picking peeling sun burns from hell.

I look like Freddy Kruger or that guy who has the scary skin disease but it was worth it, Guatemala is nuts, highly recommended.

Lots have happened since I left but this one takes the cake...

New 50 mm Boxxer Stems!

Here is a sneak peek of a raw proto made up for Factory rider Drew Mitchell.

Here is a sneak look at the longer boxer version.

Lower than anything so far / Bars will be flush with crown. All bolts custom turned down in house for a cone shape saving 8 grams a stem –will phase this in across the board.

Here’s the PR sheet AND the design perks...

Features:
- 50mm reach
- True Zero rise ie. the handlebar is absolutely flush with the crown (the lowest boxxer stem on the market)
- 139g with the help of custom coned bolt heads shaving 8 grams per stem
- 2 piece design is considerably stronger than 3 or 4 piece designs and also distributes stress on bars more evenly
- Machined from solid high strength aluminum in our own Canadian factory like all Straitline Components!

It is longer than the Ultra which places you directly over the crown for snappy handling but the 50 allows for the Bar to be flush with the crown for those who want to go low low on their rides.

These will be out in two weeks time!

BOXXER stem Angles!

So the point of todays blog is to Poke fun at a few emails I've recieved from people who cannot grasp a shorter stem design. So I figured some simple visuals would put it all into perspective.

2 time Canadian Champ Drew Mitchell Representing Canada at the worlds Eh!

Our Ultra Boxxer design at 28mm...

Motorcross powerhouse Team G Cross Honda's stem design...

Hmmmm, I see a odd similarity in rider position! I'm tripping out, how could a motorcross background company like Honda develop a stem like that, that's foolish.

Lets watch Andrew Mitchell in his Boxxer Promo Take 2! As usual, Drew is on the brink of laughter as I snicker while filming, watch his eyes look at me for constant approval.

Good stuff, might have to make a take 3 and 4!

Lets take a few learning intermissions...

Why do drugs when adrenaline is almost free... Expensive bikes excluded from my math equation.

Okay now lets watch Drew's original promo video.. Take 1!

Freeride BC bike park in the news!

On the weekend SHAW Cable news swung by the park for a long awaited 5 year update for the parks Public Launching.

None of us bothered to prepare to be the one to talk live on camera, we all hoped the other guy would do it but all of us had to do a interview one by one.

First The TV Crew started interviewing one of Freeride BC's original founders, and soon to be Banshee Bikes Athlete, Mark Mathews!

The "tonight at 6" money shot! The wholesome family dog was a last minute bonus.

It has been a long project and I can talk about it all day fluently, but put a camera in my face I stutter! All I can say is that my interview was a beauty, full of gap outs and stunned looks towards the camera.

My interview was no word of a lie - just like this...

Luckily I couldn't video tape my own interview to show you how bad it was, so lets just watch Drew Mitchells interview instead!

Okay now lets look at Drew's stellar performance testing the track for the camera crew.

So we hope to be fundraising enough money to finish the rest of the phases by late spring so show some love, we are doing this for you.

Randoms of the day!

This is Kyle Marshall PinkBike's new top gun on the DH circuit. Yes that's how he looks all the time, poor kid.
